A doula is there to support the mother physically and emotionally, to inform her of her options, to empower her to make decisions that feel right for her and her baby, and to advocate for her choices in times when a voice is needed.
-
A doula is there to offer steady support, evidence based information, and a calming presence throughout your prenatal, labor & postpartum experience.
A few of the measurable benefits of having a doula would be:
increased satisfaction with the birth experience
lower likelihood of interventions
shorter labors in some cases
improved emotional outcomes postpartum

No! A doula is there to not only support mom but also help dad in ways he can support her. She is there to step in if he needs a moment away and lift both mom and dad up through intuitive support and evidence based information.

A midwife provides medical care. She is there for the safety of mom and baby, she can give medical advice, she does all mother and baby examinations, and delivers baby.
A doula provides non medical care support. She gives emotional support, gentle relaxation massage, physically comfort in laboring positions, and provides clear and calm evidence based education to help you understand your options.

You can hire a doula at any point throughout your pregnancy although earlier is usually better.
The benefits of hiring a doula early would be that you’ll get on her calendar (most doulas only take 1-3 clients a month) and you’d get childbirth education and preparedness earlier in your pregnancy which could help you feel settled and prepared closer to the due date.

Great question!!
You can expect lots of encouragement to have the birth you desire! Each prenatal session will be packed with birth prep, education and comfort & coping measures for both you and your partner. So when the best day of your life rolls around I will be there for each step as an ear to listen, hands to assist in comfort, and a mouth to provide words of affirmation & to advocate when needed.
I operate on a very individualized level. Your experience is unique to you. I will meet you where you are and we will work together to come up with how I can best serve you and advocate for you.
I am your doula, but in this role I am also your unwavering friend.
